Istanbul airport may have been a back up target.

Every year Istanbul has held a gay pride parade. This year the government canceled it due to security concerns.
It had been scheduled for this week.
So there's a chance that the parade was the original target.

You heard it here first.
I think it's time to pull the plug on NASA

I used to be a huge fan.
We've had some amazing successes. Putting a man in space (Not the 1st, I know), putting the 1st and only men on the moon. That was big.
Skylab, our short lived space station.
Voyager, voyager II, Hubble (Once they gave it corrective lenses it was incredible.)

But NASA has become risk averse.
Why don't we have a moon base?
We should be much farther along in our efforts to put humans on Mars. We've been in the planning stages since the 80's.

The fact that we didn't have a replacement for the Space Shuttle was inexcusable. The shuttle was flawed from the beginning. It needed to be retired sooner. It made space travel very expensive. It should have been much smaller human transport vehicle.
Cargo can be and should be launched into space separately on much less expensive unmanned rockets.
I don't want to take anything away from our brave astronauts but the shuttle effectively turned them into space truck drivers.
NASA has become a wasteful bloated bureaucracy. Just like all of the other government agencies.
In the free market businesses like that will ultimately fail and be replaced by better more efficient companies (unless they're propped up by government).
So, I say let's tear them down and then stand back and see what rises from the ashes. A leaner meaner more focused space program. But if it's just a new government program it'll just become another failed bureaucracy.
